Andy Murray claimed back to back 2nd clay court title for this year by beating the ‘Clay court King' Rafael Nadal who was the last time champion here at the Madrid Open on Sunday. Andy Murray stunned Rafael Nadal in the dominating game where he won 6-3, 6-2.
Nadal, who previously defeated Murray 6 times in clay court, lost the battle in clay court for the first time. Murray also got the taste of first title in clay court in just few days back in Munich Open where he beat Philipp Kohlschreiber in the final match by 7-6 (7-4), 5-7, 7-6 (7-4) .
This defeat kept nine-time French Open champion Nadal outside of the top five tennis players. He is in the 7th position now.
After winning the title Andy Murray commented
“To play Rafa in Spain is extremely tough, but this is the reason why we play tennis for these matches, it is one of the toughest things in tennis to try and win against Rafa on clay, I will keep trying to play well in the next few weeks with Roland Garros just round the corner.”
