Another stunning performance by Lucie Safarova who reached her first Grand Slam final by defeating former champion Ana Ivanovic in a one almost one sided French Open Semi-finals.
Safarova, who never reached to quarter final before this year, won the semi-final match by 7-5, 7-5.
Ivanovic was the champion at Roland Garros as a 20-year-old in 2008 but she struggled a lot to reach to the semis.
On the other side Safarova had not dropped a set in the tournament, winning five straight tie-breaks, one of those coming in the first set against defending champion Maria Sharapova.
Safarova became the first Czech woman to reach the French Open final after Hana Mandlikova won the title in 1981.
“It’s a dream come true. I still cannot believe it,” she said “I started too slowly, but I tried to pick up my level and started to play really aggressively because that was the only way to get the win.”…read more
